1. Character Development
Futurama Wiki is a series of websites that chronicle the adventures of the fictional comic book superhero Futurama Wiki and his supporting characters. Wikia, the creator of Futurama Wiki, is a wiki engine built with Django.
Futurama Wiki provides a full complement of Futurama fan animations, videos, comic strips, and over 130,000 posts on the show itself (only covers its first 2 seasons).
The most popular sections are "Futurama" and "Morpheus".
The Futurama Wiki also handles all other aspects related to the show including character profiles, episode summaries, and news. The Futurama Wiki has an active community that has created millions of pages since 2010.
The FuturameWiki is not only one of the most well-known wikis in fandom but it is also one of two wikis that have been voted to be the best in fandom several times (the other being Comic Book Versus Movieverse). The wiki was named Best Fan Site for 2013 by Fandom Awards, Best Fan Site for 2014 by The Fandom Network, Best Fan Site for 2015 by Fandom Awards, and Best Fan Site for 2016 by The Fandom Network.
2. Animation
Futurama Wiki is a cartoon series created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. In it, Philip J. Fry, a very special and very ordinary pizza delivery boy, becomes cryogenically frozen, only to wake up in the year 3000.
The main character of the show is Philip J. Fry, a typical regular New York City pizza delivery boy who wakes up in the year 3000, only to find himself in an alternate universe where his imagination has been replaced by an enormous robot that seems to have some sort of life-supporting system for its brain and eyes.
His name is a portmanteau of Philip (the Greek word for “man”) and Fry (the name of the lead character from Douglas Adams' novel "Futurama", whose character has some similarities with Philip).
As with the rest of Futurama's characters, Fry's name is modeled after another character from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" called Arthur Dent (see below).
The Futurama Wiki is an encyclopedia about Futurama characters which was developed by User: Saijumandokami/Futurama Wiki and became active as early as August 24th, 2010 at 18:02 UTC, though it had been active since March 27th, 2010 at 00:00 UTC. It includes biographies, episodes overviews, images sections, and links to other topics if they are relevant to Futurma characters' entries on it.
It was created by User: Saijumandokami/Futurama Wiki as part of his entry into Wikipedia's English Wikipedia page on October 27th, 2010 at 13:36 UTC where he became one of only two users with dual role editing a page on both English Wikipedia (English_talk pages) and YouTube (futurama).
The Futurama Wiki has since been discontinued; however, it continues to be maintained by User: Saijumandokami/Futurama Wiki who continues to maintain several other Futurama articles which were not part of his entry into Wikipedia's English Wikipedia page on October 27th, 2010 at 13:36 UTC. These include entries on the official websites for both "Futurama" (i.e., "Futuramas") in Japan and "Futurama" videos in various languages around the world; various fan-made videos such as those made primarily for Spanish speakers; fan
3. Background
Futurama is a cartoon series created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. The show, which ran for three seasons between 1999 and 2001 on Fox, is about a pizza delivery boy named Philip J. Fry who ends up in the year 3000.
"Futurama" is actually an acronym: "For Our Future – The Intelligent Design of Itself", which has been changed to simply "Futurama".
The series took its title from a play on words — Futurama being the same as "For our future", while Futurama Wiki is the same as Futurama Wiki — but it was also inspired by another Groening creation, the animated series "The Simpsons", which had used the acronym FUTURE AS FUTURAMA (or just FASFAF for short). In fact, Groening said: “I was having this debate about whether to call it Futurama or Futurama Wiki since both are pretentious. But I like Futurama better so I named it that.”
The title of this article is taken from a line from an episode of Futurama called “The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings”: “There's no future!” Fry says in one of his first lines in the show. It turns out that he's mistaken; there are many futures; some of them are very distant and some are less distant than others…but none of them will be here in the year 3000! It's entirely possible that this future won't be even remotely like ours! So do we really want to spend billions of dollars building one? Will we really want to spend billions more building one? What if it never comes back? Won't we have wasted our lives then? You know what they say…the future isn't always what you expect it to be…or would you rather change it? Will you buy something today or will you put your money into something else today? Some items aren't worth your time today so why not put your money into something else instead? There's no future!
4. Evolution of the Series
Futurama was originally a two-year show on The Comedy Channel. It was created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, though the show's writers were often uncredited in the credits. The series premiered on August 26, 1997, and ran for two years, before it got picked up to become part of The Simpsons. Season one averaged around 700,000 viewers each week.
In that time, Futurama has had many guest stars such as Homer Simpson (Homer), Mona Lisa (Mona Lisa), My Three Sons (Morgan Jones), RoboCop (Robocop), and others. In addition to that, the show has spawned a spin-off series called "The Beast with a Billion Backs".
The first episode of Season 4 was watched by 1 million people in France alone;
the episode reached 2 million French viewers in 27 episodes.
In 2004 Futurama received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for its third season. In 2008 Futurama was also nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation Short Form · Animation).
Throughout its life cycle, Futurama has generated over one billion page views from YouTube alone and more than 200 million views from the official Futurama channel on the Internet Archive.
Futurama is currently ranked #22 among all TV shows on IMDB .com. It is also ranked #8 among all TV shows on Box Office Mojo .com's list of most popular shows and #9 on TV Guide's list of best shows of all time; it is currently ranked #20 on TV Guide's list of 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time behind only "The Simpsons" (which finished at #1) and "Seinfeld" (which finished at #2). In addition to these rankings, "Futurama" has been listed as one of America's Favorite Television Shows by Entertainment Weekly Magazine since 2006.

The site contains information on all episodes of the show as well as background on other Star Wars-related projects and information on other properties owned by Lucasfilm, such as "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", "Star Wars: Rebels", "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" and the forthcoming "video game.
Futurama Wiki's official policy is that any information should be taken from reliable sources and believed to be accurate; however, not all material (such as episode summaries) has been checked for accuracy by Lucasfilm staff or made available for viewing at Futurama Wiki.
Prior to November 2005, there were only three English languages Futurama Wiki sites; one Japanese site was launched in that month and a Russian site was launched two months later. Several others are in development or ongoing creation and will likely launch in the future.
